The Book of Dzyan, Stanza I

The Stanzas formed the basis for The Secret Doctrine , one of the foundational works of the theosophical movement, by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. Madame Blavatsky claimed to have seen a manuscript of the Book of Dzyan while studying esoteric lore in Tibet. She claimed this and other ancient manuscripts were safeguarded from profane eyes by the initiates of an Occult Brotherhood.

The Secret Book of Dzyan

Contrary to common misunderstanding, however, she did not say that the Book of Dzyan was entirely unknown or unheard of by anyone in the modern world. What she did say was:. The idea that HPB may well have been an honest, truthful, decent person has most probably never occurred to them. It is the only original copy now in existence. The Stanzas of Dzyan of H. P. Blavatsky

Blavatsky's famous transcribed messages from beyond, the mysterious Book of Dzyan , the heart of the sacred books of Kie-te, are said once to have been known only to Tibetan mystics. Quotations from Dzyan form the core of her closely-argued The Secret Doctrine, the most influential single book of occult knowledge to emerge from the last century. The text of the book you hold reproduces nearly all of Book of Dzyan that Blavatsky transcribed. It also includes long excerpts from her Secret Doctrine as well as from the Society of Psychical Research's report concerning phenomena witnessed by members of the Theosophical Society. There are notes and additional shorter materials.
