## 15 best books to learn Probability & Statistics

P robability theory is the mathematical study of uncertainty. It plays a central role in machine learning, as the design of learning algorithms often relies on probabilistic assumption of the data. Now, are you searching for some good books in Probability to read? Here is our list. A Course in Probability Theory by Kai Lai Chung This book assumes that you have a certain degree of mathematical maturity, but gives you very thorough proofs of the basic concepts of rigorous probability. An Introduction to Probability Theory and Its Applications by William Feller This is a two volume book and the first volume is what will likely interest a beginner because it covers discrete probability.## Machine Learning Books for Beginners

Probability and Statistics are two branches of mathematics where probability deals with the measure of the likelihood that an event will occur in a random experiment and statistics deal with the collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation, and organization of data. A very practical and useful book for both first-time learners and self-learners which includes practice problems at the end of each section, very helpful and easy to understand examples, easy to follow and complete solutions, the book webpage which provides examples both in MATLAB and R. Student's Solutions Guide for Introduction to Probability, Statistics, and Random Processes explains the following topics very clearly.

By galois , March 20 in Mathematics and Statistics. I just spoke to a professor at a program of interest and asked what I should do to best prepare for my coursework but also the type of research that professor does. The most important thing emphasized was to know my probability very well. I never even ended up taking a formal probability class in undergrad! So I'd like to know if anyone has experience with a textbook that is particularly good for self-study.

I've studied those fields when I was at Uni, but never really got the intuition right. I wish I would have read that book back then. Once you get that right, the formulas just make sense. After reading that book, you will be way more comfortable to read books about Machine Learning, or any other fields where Probabilities and Statistics are a prerequisite. Hi thank you mortimerwax, I already find Prof.

I never had the opportunity to visit a stats course from a math faculty. I am looking for a probability theory and statistics book that is complete and self-sufficient. By complete I mean that it contains all the proofs and not just states results. By self-sufficient I mean that I am not required to read another book to be able to understand the book.
