Frog and Toad all Year is one of the Frog and Toad books. They are beginning reader chapter books, and children are so excited when they can finally read at this level. It was a Newbery Honor Book, or runner-up for the American Library Association Newbery Medal , which recognizes the year's "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children". Frog and Toad Together was adapted as a film. Best friends Frog and Toad are always together. The five stories feature flowers, cookies, bravery, dreams, and, most importantly, friendship. Toad wakes up one morning and decides to write a list of things to do for the day.
On a cool autumn day, a frog and a toad awake in their separate houses to find that their yards are filled with fallen leaves. But, unbeknown to either of them, after the raking is done and as they are walking back to their respective homes, a wind comes and undoes all of their hard work, leaving their yards as leaf-strewn as they were at the beginning. But Frog and Toad both feel satisfied believing that they have done the other a good turn. What does a child learn from this? That doing good deeds can make the doer feel good, even if those deeds go unrecognized? That those to whom we feel closest will never fully know how much we care for them?
It was dark. All the shutters were closed. “Toad, where are you?” called Frog. walk up and down,” said Toad. “Perhaps that will help me to think of a story.”.
