Everything GREAT About Coco!

I loved the movie as it was both an eye candy and had a really awesome story. I found it amusing so I hope you guys will too. This setting actually made the film really enjoyable to watch because there were so many colorful eye candies. They ask each boy for bread to test which one they would choose. Below is a screencap of a young Manolo and his family while they set up offerings and candles for his mother, Carmen Sanchez.

Coco, since its release, has seen widespread success across the U. Upon the original release of the trailer, many took to the internet to express their outrage over the Pixar stealing concepts from The Book of Life, another film centered around Dia de Los Muertos. While the movies are completely different in plot Coco centering around tradition, family, and legacy and the Book of Life centered on love, bravery, and courage , the similarities in animation come from concepts already embedded in Mexican culture. The Book of Life was created by a husband and wife duo backed by a predominantly Mexican production team. Their campaign for the film had wonderful collateral that, if distributed through the proper channels, could have really made the same impact as Coco; a landmark movie centered around Mexican culture and folklore in the mainstream media.

Personal Data Collected

There's a phenomenon in Hollywood where two extremely similar movies are released in the same year, or otherwise relatively close together, by separate studios seeming without knowledge of each other - these are called twin films. However, the gods of the afterlife - La Muerte Kate del Castillo of the Land of the Remembered and Xibalba Ron Perlman of the Land of the Forgotten - interfere and Manolo is sent on a journey through the afterlife in order to return to his beloved. In terms of their development, Coco director Lee Unkrich reportedly first pitched the concept in around the time Toy Story 3 came out. Gutierrez toying with the idea as early as So, The Book of Life was undoubtedly being developed long before Coco.

However, as an avid fan of all things animated, I was very happy with this movie when it came out in as The Book of Life , produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by Jorge Gutierrez. But the similarities have made a lot of people wonder. The Book of Life was a good and quirky film. Plus: it was great to see an animated film with an Hispanic director and producer get a big budget and a major studio behind it. It became an underground hit, even though it wasn't a box office slam. In the end, it became more of a home video hit. However, the majority of the negative reviews draw parallels to The Book of Life.
