Forever and a Day (novel) - Wikipedia

Mercifully, literary Bond fans did not have to wait forever and a day for Mr. And Sixtine came out of that. An older woman who would have been old enough to serve in the War. Some prequels fail with too much back-story, attempting to answer every question possible, but Horowitz provides just the right balance of explanatory exposition. There is also a clever torture scene, that has Scipio playing mind games with Bond, that is another acid test of a good Bond novel. Forever and a Day

Forever and a Day is the fortieth official James Bond novel and the second continuation novel to be written by English novelist and screenwriter Anthony Horowitz. Commissioned by Ian Fleming Publications , it was released on 31 May The novel is set during , against the backdrop of the brutal underworld of the French Riviera, and serves as a prequel to Ian Fleming 's book Casino Royale. In , Agent , who was assigned the mission to investigate the sudden lack of narcotic activity of the Corsican underworld in the south of France, died; murdered in Marseilles, his body riddled with bullet holes. Having no other agent "00" available, M decides to replace by a man that the SIS trained for section "00": James Bond. As it happens, Bond is currently in Stockholm, Sweden with the mission of eliminating Rolf Larsen , a former war hero from Britain and Norway, who was in fact a double agent working for the Nazis.

There is no tiresome origin novel featuring a teenage Bond experimenting with murder techniques on small forest animals. To the reader of Fleming, Bond is a fully formed force of nature, elegantly inevitable. His test run, the killing in Stockholm of a wartime traitor, is adjudged to have gone well though it is a rather unnecessarily messy stabbing , so off the new is dispatched to find out exactly what is going on in the south of France. This is, then, Bond Begins. It is, naturally, not long before he meets a femme who might or might not be fatale. She is named Sixtine, and is first encountered where else but in a grand casino, where she proves to be an expert card-counter. She also prefers her martinis shaken not stirred, because her hated ex-husband insisted on them being made the other way.

It was published on 31 May A prequel to the events of Casino Royale , the book recounts Bond's first mission as a double-0 agent, his status recently earned by killing a wartime traitor in Stockholm. Set in the French Riviera in , Bond investigates the killing of the previous man designated and resumes his final mission: determine what is behind the sudden lack of drug activity in the Corsican underworld.
