The Lost and The Found by Cat Clarke – review

Can her sister finally be back? Faith always dreamed of her sister coming home; she just never believed it would happen. It took me a couple of chapters to really decide I liked Faith. Which in and of itself was an interesting paradox, right? I loved her relationship with her almost-step-dad Michel. He seemed to really get her and had the capacity to draw her out.

Through an unsettling tone and small clues strewn throughout, Clarke ultimately leads the reader to an impossible conclusion. Shocked to their core, and hopes dashed once again, they wallow in despair until an unexpected call from the police sends their hope soaring once again a year-old woman has shown up claiming to be Laurel! The plot was well paced, and Laurel in particular felt like she could be a real person with real emotions. On one hand, Faith is bursting with happiness; on the other hand she is nervous about reuniting with her long lost sister.

Lost and Found By Oliver Jeffers

Obviously when you dive into a book whose author has written amazing books before, you have high expectations. She somehow manages perfectly to capture the thoughts and feelings of a teenager, without actually being a teenager herself. She writes so well that if the protagonist hates a character, you start to hate a character. The characters were the main focus of the entire book. The main character, Faith, is brilliant. My personal favourite character was Michel.
